Inception: The Semantic multimodal Car Offer Project grew out of the 2010 Advisory Forum in Seattle where it was acknowledged that the travel industry had begun focusing on a variety of emerging meta-data architectures for travel domain-specific search models. The initial Car Rental ontology used was donated from OpenTravel member Avis/Budget. All project participants will have an opportunity to analyze the ontology and suggest enhancements that suit their own business requirements.
Challenge: This project is working toward producing a car rental ontology and necessary business objects and implementer resources to support richer cross-domain searching, search engine optimization and decision technologies which are already being adopted to provide consumers with new and better methods that complement their travel search. Examples will involve expanding search results using OpenTravel schema so that car rental offers can include hotel pick-up and drop-off services, vehicle size options based on quantity of travelers and luggage, eco-friendly vehicles and car rental facilities that provide child car seats.
The Semantic Car Offer Project schema is for OpenTravel 1.0 Message Suite with a second quarter 2013 target release.
